Bethesda hasn’t provided their fans with many details on the game’s story, but we do know a few things.

Starfield takes place in the year 2330, 20 years after an intergalactic war between the United Colonies and Freestar Collective. Your role is to navigate the remains of the aftermath with your organization. Starfield apparently has more dialogue options than any other game Bethesda has developed. The game features a butterfly effect mechanic, where what you do and say can affect parts of the story going forward.

From the scenes in the gameplay trailer, many fans have stated that Starfield resembles No Man’s Sky.

This makes sense, as they are both space exploration simulations. But, Starfield is still a Bethesda RPG. Which means that it has many additional features that No Man’s Sky was lacking in: such as an XP system, advanced customization, and more interactive NPCs. Starfield will incorporate a higher focus on resource management, real-time combat, crafting and base building. The creators stated that they believe this is a game that will be played for many hours on end, as the story is expansive and there are many ways to go about it.

Starfield’s Customization

Starfield will allow you to pick a background and starting skills for your character.

By background, we mean a total backstory of your character that the NPCs can even reference in dialogue. Bethesda has confirmed that there will be 16 different backstories to choose from, such as: Bounty Hunter, Diplomat, Chef, Pilgrim, and more. Your skills fall under five tiers: Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech. You upgrade your skills like any other RPG that has a skill tree, so you can unlock the skills as you see fit. You will also be able to pick three of sixteen different traits that will also tailor your gameplay experience.

Your ship is also fully customizable, unlike other games in this genre. Starfield will allow you to build and modify every aspect of your ship. You can completely rearrange the ship parts to change its look, as well as painting it whatever colors you want.

Starfield’s XP System

You have a level that can be increased by gaining XP.

Gaining XP can be as simple as killing other enemies or most likely, building and completing tasks. You can use your XP points to unlock various skills in the skill set to increase your character’s capabilities.
